We had just bought our new home and really wanted to get the floors done before moving in, and more importantly we are both into low VOC products. Felix Hardwood Floor Restoration made sure we could use our preferred product AND IT LOOKS AMAZING! What's even nicer is that there's no smell to mitigate and floors are cured quickly. There's even more colors/tints available but we wanted the red oak to be seen (and felt!) in all her glory.

Hardwood Floor Refinishing

We recently purchased a home with 1,200+ sq. ft. of custom wide plank flooring which was ~ 20 years old. It had its share of wear and tear - scratches, dents, damages, etc. We decided to get the floor refinished and the damages repaired prior to moving our furnishings into the home. We found Mike (owner of Feenix Hardwood Restoration) through Thumbtack. And we are so glad we did!

Mike was quick to respond to our request and provided a very reasonable quote, schedule, and timeline. We were having the entire interior of the home painted and Mike was able to schedule us immediately after the paint work was completed. Mike estimated 6 -7 days of effort for the job. We did have a slight delay due to inclement weather (it is Michigan!) but Mike kept us fully informed of his status and what was going to happen next in the process.

He sanded the entire floor down to bare wood - having to pound most of the nail heads down below the surface - and meticulously performed the required patching and also added a transition piece which more than exceeded our expectations (and the price for the increased work required was totally fair). We were expecting the damage to be repaired with wood putty but the damage was so extensive Mike suggested we replace the boards instead. Mike 'found' the exact boards we needed in the rafters of our basement (another story) and used them to make the entire floor look brand new! We were also very impressed with his commercial grade equipment - he needed to patch into our electric panel to get the 220 power to use it. The sanders, vacuums, etc. worked so well that nearly all the dust and debris was contained and removed from the home. Mike prepared a palette of stain color samples to allow us to pick a color that fit with our planned décor. Two coats of sealer and two coats of finish spanned the two final days of the project with minimal fumes resulting from the finishing work.

Mikes attention to detail was readily apparent in all he did. He was as interested in making the floors look great as we were! Our floors look absolutely beautiful. Mike is a wood craftsman and an artist who clearly takes pride in the quality of his work. We felt lucky to find him and would definitely hire again. Highly recommend!

Hardwood Floor Refinishing

My 110 year old Farmhouse had a cocktail of original, untouched pine plank floor, once-refinished pine plank floor, AND new pine plank floor, all clearly in different conditions AND ALL needing to match OTHER finished pine in the front of my house! Yikes right?1

Mike was quick on the draw, responding immediately to my request for a quote, and once hired and scheduled, Mike obligated five days of detailed, quality effort to sanding - sometimes down on his hands and knees - repairing and prepping my floors to a jet smooth surface. Thereafter, he laid down samples of stain, allowed me to select, and stained the flooring to a wonderful honey-red-brown. Mike KNEW the old wood wouldn't match exactly to the new wood, BUT before even starting the project he had a solution: The varnish! Mike worked magic to tint the varnish, where needed, to ensure the whole floor looked uniform and complete AND accounted for color change in the future... and it certainly did! After drying, he fine sanded, polished, and left my floor completely brilliant, matched, and better than I expected!

Mike is thorough, precise, punctual, and tidy. Using his commercial-grade equipment, 99% of dust and debris was contained and removed, and my home was virtually dust free!

Mike pricing is reasonable and in-line with the industry, especially at the quality level of his output. He is responsive, attention to detail-focused, quick to support change, and HIGHLY respectful of people's homes. If I could summarize his work into a single sentence it would be: "The guy REALLY knows what he's doing!"

Getting into a project as involved as refinishing your home flooring is uncommon, and understanding all details involved is equally rare. Mike made this really easy, and I highly recommend him for your floor requirements!

I am more than impressed by working with Fenix Hardwood. Mike the owner of the company responded very quickly to my request. I was comparing two other big floor companies and they did not hold a candle to him. We moved from Florida and bought a house virtually and didn't know it had all these inconsistent carpet colors which in our opinion made the house look...ugly. However, after Mike was done he made our floors look vastly different and by different I mean beautiful. Take the time to meet with them, communicate your expectations, and if you hire them you will be amazed. In three homes I've owned, I've hired companies to improve the floors, but this company has done the best job I have ever seen!
